Born in Chambery in 1976, Renaud Studied at the National conservatoire of Music in Paris with Gérard Poulet and Veda Reynolds, then with Thomas Brandis in Berlin and Edna Stern.

In 1998 Claudio Abbado chose him as konzertmeister in the Gustav Mahler jugendorchester, which enabled him to perfect his musical education with Pierre Boulez, Seiji Ozawa, Daniel Barenboim and Franz Welser-Moest. In 2000 he was named «Rising star» and «New talent of the year» at the Victoires de la Musique, then «Instrumental soloist of the year» in 2005.

Renaud Capuçon collaborated with the greatest conductors and the most prestigious orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic with Bernard Haitink, the Los Angels Philharmonic with Gustavo Dudamel, Andris Nelson and Daniel Harding, the Paris Orchestra with Christoph Eschenbach, the Radio France Philharmonic with Myung-Whun Chung, ect.

He worked with Martha Argerich, Nicholas Angelich, Kathia Buniastisvili, Hélène Grimaud, Gérard Caussé, YoYo Ma, Michael Pletnev and his brother Gautier in the most renowned festivals.

Renaud Capuçon plays the Guarneri del Gesu «Panette» (1737) which belonged to Isaac Stern and was bought for him by the Swiss-Italian Bank.


He has recorded thirty or so discs with Erato/Warner clasics of which he is the sole artist.
