About the violin contest

Frequency of the competitions ?
Each three years.

Open to every country ?
Yes.

Limit of ages ?
Minimum : no limit.
Maximum : 30 years (on January 1st of the year of the contest).

Repertoire
Any work will be played entirely from memory excepted the compulsory contemporary work (with the agreement of the composer ). The candidate is not allowed to play a same work for several tests.

Recording – broadcasting
The candidate cannot refuse any recording either CD or video and broadcasting on radio or television of the tests.

Which pianists will accompany the candidates ?
Official accompanists on charge of the competition (one rehearsal before each test). The candidate may be accompanied by his (her) own pianist at his (her) own charge. No accommodation by the competition.

Which orchestra will accompaign the finalists ?
Two orchestras of Radio France alternatively :
  • the Radio France philharmonic orchestra
  • the National Orchestra of France

About accommodation

  • 1° Private accomodation

The candidates who did not chose accomodation in host families will have to see themselves to their accomodation.
To make their searches easier, the Contest dealt preferential agreements (dealt prices with breakfast and taxes included) with « EXCLUSIVE HOTELS ».

  • 2° Accomodation in host families

The candidates may be accomodated in host families who live in Paris and in the next suburbs. Most of them have a piano. They present accomodation, breakfast and one meal for each day, until the candidate is eliminated by the Contest. In the French host family, the accommodation is reserved to the candidate. The contest does not take care of the accommodation of his own accompanist.
